Can dogs eat cinnamon?
A sprinkle is harmless; a spoonful is not.
Why
Small amounts of cinnamon are non-toxic and appear in dog treats. Large amounts irritate the mouth and stomach, and inhaled cinnamon powder causes coughing and breathing trouble. Nutmeg, often paired with it, is toxic.
How to serve it
A tiny sprinkle on food at most. Skip cinnamon rolls and anything with nutmeg.
If they eat too much
Mouth irritation, vomiting, low blood sugar with large amounts; coughing if inhaled.
How much cinnamon for my dog?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult dog, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 1 g a day — a pea-sized piece · tiny sprinkle.
Treats of all kinds should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Puppies, kittens, seniors and pets with a medical condition: ask your vet first.
