Can dogs eat basil, parsley & other soft herbs?
Yes — fresh basil, parsley, oregano, rosemary in small amounts.
Why
Common kitchen herbs are non-toxic to dogs and parsley is a classic breath freshener in dog treats. Curly parsley is fine; skip spring parsley (Petroselinum) in large amounts as it's photosensitising. Herbs are seasoning, not food.
How to serve it
A pinch of chopped fresh herbs on food.
If they eat too much
Stomach upset only with very large amounts.
How much basil, parsley & other soft herbs for my dog?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult dog, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 2 g a day — a pea-sized piece · fresh, chopped pinch.
Treats of all kinds should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Puppies, kittens, seniors and pets with a medical condition: ask your vet first.
