Choosing a size
As a rule of thumb, pick a size roughly two-thirds the width of the furniture it hangs above. When in doubt, go one size up — portraits almost always look better a little bigger.
- 8×10" — desks, shelves, gallery-wall clusters
- 12×16" — hallways, above a nightstand
- 16×20" — the versatile living-room size
- 24×36" — a statement piece above the sofa or bed
