Can cats eat cinnamon?
Skip — cats are more sensitive to cinnamon.
Why
Cats lack the liver enzymes to process the compounds in cinnamon; the essential oil is toxic and even powder irritates.
What to do instead
Skip, including cinnamon-scented products.
Symptoms to watch for
Vomiting, diarrhoea, low heart rate, liver issues with essential oil.
If your cat has eaten cinnamon, don't wait for symptoms.
Call your vet, or in the US the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (888-426-4435) or Pet Poison Helpline (855-764-7661), 24 hours a day. Have the amount, the time and any packaging ready.
