Can dogs eat popcorn?
Plain, air-popped popcorn in small amounts; no butter, salt or kernels.
Why
Fully popped plain corn is a harmless low-calorie nibble. Unpopped kernels break teeth and can block small guts; butter, salt, caramel and cheese coatings are the real problem.
How to serve it
A few fully popped, plain pieces. Pick out every hard kernel.
If they eat too much
Cracked teeth or blockage from kernels; stomach upset from toppings.
How much popcorn for my dog?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult dog, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 8 g a day — about 1 tablespoon · air-popped, plain, no kernels.
Treats of all kinds should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Puppies, kittens, seniors and pets with a medical condition: ask your vet first.
