Can dogs eat crackers & biscuits?
Not a habit — salt, fat and sometimes garlic or onion.
Why
A plain cracker won't hurt a dog, but most are salty, some are buttery, and savoury versions contain onion or garlic powder. Sweet biscuits add sugar and may contain chocolate or xylitol.
What to do instead
Skip; offer a dog biscuit instead.
Symptoms to watch for
Thirst and stomach upset from salt; toxic effects from flavoured versions.
If your dog has eaten crackers & biscuits, don't wait for symptoms.
Call your vet, or in the US the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (888-426-4435) or Pet Poison Helpline (855-764-7661), 24 hours a day. Have the amount, the time and any packaging ready.
