Can dogs eat french fries?
Not a treat — fried fat and salt.
Why
Fries are potato deep-fried in oil and salted, sometimes seasoned with garlic or onion. A single plain fry won't hurt a healthy large dog; a portion is a pancreatitis and salt risk.
What to do instead
Skip. Baked plain potato wedges are the safe version.
Symptoms to watch for
Vomiting, diarrhoea, pancreatitis, thirst.
If your dog has eaten french fries, don't wait for symptoms.
Call your vet, or in the US the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (888-426-4435) or Pet Poison Helpline (855-764-7661), 24 hours a day. Have the amount, the time and any packaging ready.
