Can dogs eat crisps & chips?
Not a treat — salt and fat with no upside.
Why
One crisp won't hurt a healthy dog, but a bag can cause salt toxicity, and flavourings often include onion and garlic powder. Fried potato chips add fat.
What to do instead
Skip. Offer a carrot stick instead.
Symptoms to watch for
Excessive thirst, vomiting, diarrhoea, tremors from salt; pancreatitis from fat.
If your dog has eaten crisps & chips, don't wait for symptoms.
Call your vet, or in the US the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (888-426-4435) or Pet Poison Helpline (855-764-7661), 24 hours a day. Have the amount, the time and any packaging ready.
