Can dogs eat oranges?
Yes, a segment or two — peeled and seedless.
Why
Oranges are safe in small amounts and give vitamin C, though dogs make their own. The peel and pith are hard to digest and the citrus oils upset some stomachs. The sugar adds up quickly.
How to serve it
Peel completely, remove seeds and as much white pith as possible. One segment for a small dog, two or three for a large one.
If they eat too much
Vomiting or diarrhoea, especially after peel; some dogs simply dislike the smell.
How much oranges for my dog?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult dog, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 15 g a day — about 1 tablespoon · peeled, seedless segments.
Treats of all kinds should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Puppies, kittens, seniors and pets with a medical condition: ask your vet first.
