Can dogs eat blackberries?
Yes, a few — they contain trace xylitol.
Why
Blackberries are low in sugar and high in fibre, vitamins C and K and antioxidants. Like raspberries they contain a small amount of natural xylitol, so keep to a handful.
How to serve it
A few fresh berries; freeze them for a summer treat.
If they eat too much
Loose stools from too many.
How much blackberries for my dog?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult dog, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 15 g a day — about 1 tablespoon · fresh or frozen, a few.
Treats of all kinds should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Puppies, kittens, seniors and pets with a medical condition: ask your vet first.
