Can dogs eat bananas?
Yes, a few slices — they're sugary.
Why
Bananas bring potassium, vitamin B6 and fibre, but they are one of the sweetest fruits. A dog's treat budget is about 10% of daily calories, and banana uses it up fast.
How to serve it
Peel, slice. Mash a spoonful into a lick mat or freeze slices. Never feed the peel — it isn't toxic but it's hard to digest and can block a small dog's gut.
If they eat too much
Constipation from too much, or loose stools from a sudden large amount; a swallowed peel can cause vomiting and a blockage.
How much bananas for my dog?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult dog, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 23 g a day — roughly 2 tablespoons (a small handful) · peeled, sliced.
Treats of all kinds should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Puppies, kittens, seniors and pets with a medical condition: ask your vet first.
