Can dogs eat nutmeg?
No. Nutmeg contains myristicin, which is toxic to dogs.
Why
A pinch in a baked good is unlikely to harm, but larger amounts of nutmeg cause hallucinations, disorientation, racing heart and seizures. Pumpkin pie and eggnog are the seasonal risks.
What to do instead
Never as a treat; keep spiced baking away from dogs.
Symptoms to watch for
Disorientation, racing heart, high blood pressure, dry mouth, seizures. Call your vet.
If your dog has eaten nutmeg, don't wait for symptoms.
Call your vet, or in the US the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (888-426-4435) or Pet Poison Helpline (855-764-7661), 24 hours a day. Have the amount, the time and any packaging ready.
