Can dogs eat figs?
Fresh fig, a piece or two; not the plant.
Why
Ripe fig flesh is safe and full of fibre and potassium, but the fig plant's sap and leaves irritate skin and mouths. Dried figs are very sugary.
How to serve it
One or two pieces of fresh ripe fig.
If they eat too much
Diarrhoea from too much; mouth or skin irritation from the plant.
How much figs for my dog?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult dog, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 15 g a day — about 1 tablespoon · fresh, a piece or two.
Treats of all kinds should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Puppies, kittens, seniors and pets with a medical condition: ask your vet first.
