Can dogs eat carrots?
Yes — raw or cooked, a favourite low-calorie chew.
Why
Carrots are cheap, crunchy, low in calories and full of beta-carotene and fibre. A frozen carrot is a classic teething chew for puppies.
How to serve it
Wash and cut to a size that can't be swallowed whole; steam for small or older dogs. Baby carrots are perfect for training.
If they eat too much
Orange-tinged stools (harmless) or loose stools if a lot is eaten; choking if a small dog bolts a large chunk.
How much carrots for my dog?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult dog, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 45 g a day — roughly 3 tablespoons (a small handful) · raw sticks or steamed.
Treats of all kinds should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Puppies, kittens, seniors and pets with a medical condition: ask your vet first.
