Can dogs eat beetroot?
Cooked beetroot in small amounts.
Why
Beets provide fibre, folate and manganese. They're high in oxalates, so skip them for dogs prone to bladder or kidney stones. Pickled beetroot has vinegar, salt and sugar.
How to serve it
Boil or roast plain, chop small.
If they eat too much
Red stools and urine (harmless); stomach upset if overfed.
How much beetroot for my dog?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult dog, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 15 g a day — about 1 tablespoon · cooked plain, chopped.
Treats of all kinds should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Puppies, kittens, seniors and pets with a medical condition: ask your vet first.
