Can dogs eat cabbage?
Yes, cooked, small amounts.
Why
Cabbage is rich in fibre and antioxidants. Raw cabbage contains thiocyanate, which can affect the thyroid in large regular amounts, and causes a lot of gas. Cooking reduces both.
How to serve it
Steam or boil plain, chop, serve a spoonful.
If they eat too much
Gas and bloating; thyroid effects only with large daily amounts.
How much cabbage for my dog?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult dog, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 23 g a day — roughly 2 tablespoons (a small handful) · cooked, chopped.
Treats of all kinds should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Puppies, kittens, seniors and pets with a medical condition: ask your vet first.
