Can dogs eat watermelon?
Yes — flesh only, no seeds, no rind.
Why
Watermelon is 92% water and a lovely hydrating summer treat with vitamins A and C. Seeds can cause an intestinal blockage in small dogs and the rind causes stomach upset.
How to serve it
Cut into cubes, remove every seed, discard the rind. Freeze cubes for hot days.
If they eat too much
Diarrhoea from too much; blockage symptoms (vomiting, lethargy, no stools) if seeds or rind are eaten in quantity.
How much watermelon for my dog?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult dog, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 45 g a day — roughly 3 tablespoons (a small handful) · seedless cubes, no rind.
Treats of all kinds should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Puppies, kittens, seniors and pets with a medical condition: ask your vet first.
