Can dogs eat water?
Yes — fresh water always, and more in hot weather.
Why
Fresh, clean water should be available at all times; a dog needs roughly 50–60 ml per kilogram per day, more when hot or active. Avoid letting dogs gulp huge volumes at once after exercise, and keep them out of stagnant ponds and salt water.
How to serve it
Fresh bowl daily, washed; carry water on walks.
If they eat too much
Vomiting after gulping too fast; salt water: vomiting, diarrhoea, in quantity poisoning; stagnant water: parasites and bacteria.
How much water for my dog?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult dog, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 825 g a day — about 3.5 cups · fresh, clean, always available.
Treats of all kinds should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Puppies, kittens, seniors and pets with a medical condition: ask your vet first.
