Can cats eat water?
Yes — and most cats don't drink enough.
Why
Cats evolved from desert animals and have a low thirst drive, which is why urinary problems are common. Wet food, multiple bowls, wide bowls and fountains all help.
How to serve it
Fresh water in several places, away from the food bowl; consider a fountain.
If they eat too much
Signs of too little: concentrated urine, constipation, urinary crystals.
How much water for my cat?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult cat, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 200 g a day — about 0.75 cup · fresh, several bowls.
Treats of all kinds should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Puppies, kittens, seniors and pets with a medical condition: ask your vet first.
