Can dogs eat alcohol?
No. Even small amounts are dangerous.
Why
Dogs are far more sensitive to ethanol than people; a few tablespoons of spirits, or a bowl of beer for a small dog, can cause poisoning. Rising bread dough also produces alcohol in the stomach.
What to do instead
Never. Clear up spills and party glasses.
Symptoms to watch for
Vomiting, wobbliness, disorientation, slow breathing, low body temperature, collapse. Emergency.
If your dog has eaten alcohol, don't wait for symptoms.
Call your vet, or in the US the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (888-426-4435) or Pet Poison Helpline (855-764-7661), 24 hours a day. Have the amount, the time and any packaging ready.
