Can dogs eat sweet potato?
Yes, cooked and plain — a gentle, filling treat.
Why
Cooked sweet potato is easy to digest, high in fibre, vitamin A and potassium, and often used to settle upset stomachs. Raw sweet potato is hard and can block the gut; skins are best removed.
How to serve it
Bake or boil, peel, mash or cube. No butter, sugar or marshmallows. Dehydrated slices make a good chew.
If they eat too much
Loose stools if overfed; vitamin A excess only with very large regular amounts.
How much sweet potato for my dog?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult dog, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
