Can dogs eat spinach?
Small amounts of cooked spinach are fine.
Why
Spinach carries iron, vitamins and antioxidants but also oxalates, which can bind calcium and stress the kidneys in large or frequent amounts. Occasional small servings are safe for healthy dogs; skip it for dogs with kidney issues.
How to serve it
Steam, chop, mix a spoonful into food. No garlic or salt.
If they eat too much
Vomiting, weakness or breathing changes only after very large amounts; not a treat to give daily.
How much spinach for my dog?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult dog, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 15 g a day — about 1 tablespoon · steamed, chopped.
Treats of all kinds should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Puppies, kittens, seniors and pets with a medical condition: ask your vet first.
