Can dogs eat pork?
Cooked plain pork is fine; bacon, ham and raw pork are not.
Why
Plain cooked pork is a digestible protein. Processed pork — bacon, ham, sausages — is loaded with salt and fat that cause pancreatitis. Raw or undercooked pork can carry parasites.
How to serve it
Well-cooked lean pork, plain, in small pieces. Skip bacon and ham as treats.
If they eat too much
Pancreatitis (vomiting, pain, lethargy) after fatty pork; salt toxicity from ham; parasites from raw pork.
How much pork for my dog?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult dog, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 38 g a day — roughly 3 tablespoons (a small handful) · lean, well cooked, plain.
Treats of all kinds should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Puppies, kittens, seniors and pets with a medical condition: ask your vet first.
