Can dogs eat beef?
Yes — lean, cooked and plain.
Why
Beef is a rich protein and iron source. Fatty cuts, trimmings and seasoned beef (burgers with onion, salted mince) cause pancreatitis and stomach upset. Cooked bones splinter.
How to serve it
Cook lean beef plainly, drain the fat, cut small. Raw diets need veterinary guidance and strict hygiene.
If they eat too much
Vomiting and diarrhoea from fat; pancreatitis; bone injuries.
How much beef for my dog?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult dog, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 60 g a day — about half a cup · lean, cooked, plain.
Treats of all kinds should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Puppies, kittens, seniors and pets with a medical condition: ask your vet first.
