Can dogs eat pomegranate?
Not recommended — seeds and tannins upset dogs.
Why
Pomegranate isn't strictly toxic, but the arils and their seeds are hard to digest and the tannins commonly cause vomiting. Some dog treats include pomegranate extract in tiny processed amounts, which is different from feeding the fruit.
What to do instead
Skip the fresh fruit.
Symptoms to watch for
Vomiting, stomach pain, diarrhoea.
If your dog has eaten pomegranate, don't wait for symptoms.
Call your vet, or in the US the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (888-426-4435) or Pet Poison Helpline (855-764-7661), 24 hours a day. Have the amount, the time and any packaging ready.
