Can dogs eat pears?
Yes — ripe pear, cored, in small chunks.
Why
Pears are high in fibre, vitamin C and copper. Like apples, the seeds contain traces of cyanide compounds and the core is a choking risk, so both come out first. Tinned pears in syrup are too sugary.
How to serve it
Wash, core, remove seeds, cut into chunks a little smaller than your dog's mouth.
If they eat too much
Loose stools if a dog eats a lot; blockage signs if a core is swallowed whole.
How much pears for my dog?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult dog, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 30 g a day — roughly 2 tablespoons (a small handful) · cored, seedless chunks.
Treats of all kinds should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Puppies, kittens, seniors and pets with a medical condition: ask your vet first.
