Can dogs eat papaya?
Yes, the flesh — no seeds or skin.
Why
Papaya is soft, digestible and contains papain, a digestive enzyme, plus vitamins A, C and E. The seeds can cause blockage and the skin is indigestible.
How to serve it
Peel, scoop out the seeds, cube the flesh.
If they eat too much
Loose stools if overfed; blockage from seeds in small dogs.
How much papaya for my dog?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult dog, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 23 g a day — roughly 2 tablespoons (a small handful) · peeled, deseeded, cubed.
Treats of all kinds should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Puppies, kittens, seniors and pets with a medical condition: ask your vet first.
