Can dogs eat olives?
Plain olives, pitted, one or two.
Why
Olives aren't toxic, but they're salty, usually brined, and often stuffed with garlic or blue cheese. Pits break teeth and block guts.
How to serve it
One or two plain, pitted, rinsed olives for a medium or large dog.
If they eat too much
Thirst and stomach upset from salt; garlic poisoning from stuffed olives.
How much olives for my dog?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult dog, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 3 g a day — a pea-sized piece · pitted, plain, rinsed.
Treats of all kinds should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Puppies, kittens, seniors and pets with a medical condition: ask your vet first.
