Can dogs eat liver?
Yes, a little — too much causes vitamin A toxicity.
Why
Liver is extremely nutrient-dense (iron, vitamin A, B vitamins) and dogs love it. Because vitamin A accumulates, liver should stay an occasional treat: a few small pieces a week, not a daily food.
How to serve it
Cook plain (boil or bake), cut small. Dehydrated liver treats are popular for training.
If they eat too much
Loose stools short-term; with excess over months: bone deformities, stiffness (vitamin A toxicity).
How much liver for my dog?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult dog, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 8 g a day — about 1 tablespoon · cooked, small pieces, weekly.
Treats of all kinds should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Puppies, kittens, seniors and pets with a medical condition: ask your vet first.
