Can dogs eat grapefruit?
No — bitter, acidic, and the peel is toxic.
Why
Grapefruit flesh causes stomach upset and photosensitivity compounds; the peel and seeds contain psoralens and essential oils that are toxic to dogs. Dogs almost universally refuse it anyway.
What to do instead
Skip.
Symptoms to watch for
Vomiting, diarrhoea, drooling; light sensitivity with peel.
If your dog has eaten grapefruit, don't wait for symptoms.
Call your vet, or in the US the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (888-426-4435) or Pet Poison Helpline (855-764-7661), 24 hours a day. Have the amount, the time and any packaging ready.
