Can dogs eat dates?
One pitted date occasionally — they're very sugary.
Why
Dates are not toxic (they're not related to grapes) but they are about 65% sugar and the pit is a choking hazard.
How to serve it
One pitted date, chopped, for a medium or large dog, rarely.
If they eat too much
Diarrhoea, weight gain; choking on the pit.
How much dates for my dog?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult dog, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 5 g a day — about a teaspoon · pitted, chopped.
Treats of all kinds should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Puppies, kittens, seniors and pets with a medical condition: ask your vet first.
