Can dogs eat cranberries?
Fresh or dried plain cranberries in small amounts; never mixed with raisins.
Why
Cranberries are safe and sometimes used for urinary health, though the evidence in dogs is weak. Dried cranberries are often sold mixed with raisins, which are toxic, and sweetened. Cranberry sauce is sugar.
How to serve it
A few plain fresh or dried cranberries. Check the packet for raisins and sugar.
If they eat too much
Stomach upset from too many; raisin poisoning if a mixed pack is eaten.
How much cranberries for my dog?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult dog, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 8 g a day — about 1 tablespoon · plain, a few.
Treats of all kinds should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Puppies, kittens, seniors and pets with a medical condition: ask your vet first.
