Can dogs eat corn on the cob?
No — the cob is a surgical blockage waiting to happen.
Why
Corn kernels are fine; the cob does not break down and is the ideal size to lodge in the intestine. It is one of the most common reasons for emergency abdominal surgery in dogs, especially after barbecues.
What to do instead
Kernels off the cob only; bin cobs in a secure, dog-proof bin.
Symptoms to watch for
Vomiting, straining, no stools, lethargy, pain within a day or two — emergency.
If your dog has eaten corn on the cob, don't wait for symptoms.
Call your vet, or in the US the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (888-426-4435) or Pet Poison Helpline (855-764-7661), 24 hours a day. Have the amount, the time and any packaging ready.
