Can dogs eat pistachios?
Skip — fat, salt, shells and mould risk.
Why
Pistachios aren't toxic, but they are fatty, usually salted, and the shells are a blockage risk. They can also carry aflatoxin mould.
What to do instead
Skip.
Symptoms to watch for
Vomiting, diarrhoea, pancreatitis, blockage from shells.
If your dog has eaten pistachios, don't wait for symptoms.
Call your vet, or in the US the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (888-426-4435) or Pet Poison Helpline (855-764-7661), 24 hours a day. Have the amount, the time and any packaging ready.
