Can dogs eat cashews?
Plain unsalted cashews, a few — high in fat.
Why
Cashews are non-toxic to dogs but very fatty, and salted or flavoured versions add sodium. Never raw cashews from unprocessed sources (they contain urushiol, but shop cashews are already steamed).
How to serve it
Two or three plain unsalted cashews for a medium dog, rarely.
If they eat too much
Weight gain, pancreatitis with many; salt toxicity from salted nuts.
How much cashews for my dog?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult dog, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 3 g a day — a pea-sized piece · plain, unsalted, a few.
Treats of all kinds should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Puppies, kittens, seniors and pets with a medical condition: ask your vet first.
