Can dogs eat mixed nuts?
No — the mix almost always contains a dangerous one.
Why
Mixed nuts commonly include macadamias (toxic), walnuts and pecans (mould risk), almonds (choking) and are salted or flavoured. Trail mix adds raisins and chocolate.
What to do instead
Skip all nut mixes.
Symptoms to watch for
Weakness and tremors (macadamia), vomiting, pancreatitis; raisin kidney toxicity from trail mix.
If your dog has eaten mixed nuts, don't wait for symptoms.
Call your vet, or in the US the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (888-426-4435) or Pet Poison Helpline (855-764-7661), 24 hours a day. Have the amount, the time and any packaging ready.
