Can dogs eat pecans?
No — mould toxins and juglone.
Why
Pecans can carry tremorgenic mycotoxins and contain juglone, and they're fatty and a blockage risk. Pecan pie adds sugar and often nutmeg.
What to do instead
Skip pecans and pecan pie.
Symptoms to watch for
Vomiting, tremors, seizures after mouldy nuts — emergency.
If your dog has eaten pecans, don't wait for symptoms.
Call your vet, or in the US the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (888-426-4435) or Pet Poison Helpline (855-764-7661), 24 hours a day. Have the amount, the time and any packaging ready.
