Can dogs eat peanuts?
Plain, unsalted, shelled peanuts — a few.
Why
Peanuts (a legume) are non-toxic to dogs but fatty; salted, honey-roasted or flavoured versions add salt and sugar, and shells are indigestible. A few plain ones are fine for a healthy dog.
How to serve it
Shelled, unsalted, a few at a time. Chop for small dogs.
If they eat too much
Weight gain, pancreatitis from many; choking on whole nuts.
How much peanuts for my dog?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult dog, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 5 g a day — about a teaspoon · shelled, unsalted.
Treats of all kinds should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Puppies, kittens, seniors and pets with a medical condition: ask your vet first.
