Can dogs eat yogurt?
Plain, unsweetened yogurt in small amounts.
Why
Live-culture plain yogurt can support gut bacteria and is lower in lactose than milk. Flavoured yogurts add sugar, and some 'light' versions contain xylitol, which is deadly to dogs. Check the label every time.
How to serve it
A teaspoon to a tablespoon of plain Greek or natural yogurt, no sweeteners.
If they eat too much
Diarrhoea or gas in lactose-sensitive dogs. Xylitol: vomiting, collapse, seizures — emergency.
How much yogurt for my dog?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult dog, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 15 g a day — about 1 tablespoon · plain, unsweetened.
Treats of all kinds should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Puppies, kittens, seniors and pets with a medical condition: ask your vet first.
