Can dogs eat smoked salmon?
Skip — too salty, and cold-smoked is effectively raw.
Why
Smoked salmon is cured with a lot of salt, and cold-smoked salmon isn't cooked, so the parasite risk of raw salmon remains. Cooked fresh salmon is the good alternative.
What to do instead
Skip; feed cooked plain salmon instead.
Symptoms to watch for
Thirst, vomiting; salmon poisoning disease from cold-smoked fish.
If your dog has eaten smoked salmon, don't wait for symptoms.
Call your vet, or in the US the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (888-426-4435) or Pet Poison Helpline (855-764-7661), 24 hours a day. Have the amount, the time and any packaging ready.
