Can dogs eat shrimp & prawns?
Yes, cooked and shelled — a few.
Why
Shrimp are low-fat, high in protein, B12 and antioxidants. Shells, tails and heads are choking and gut hazards; raw shellfish carries bacteria; fried or garlic-butter shrimp is off the menu.
How to serve it
Boil or steam plain, remove shell, tail and vein, chop for small dogs.
If they eat too much
Vomiting or diarrhoea from shells or seasoning; rare shellfish allergy.
How much shrimp & prawns for my dog?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult dog, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 23 g a day — roughly 2 tablespoons (a small handful) · cooked, shelled, plain.
