Can cats eat mint?
Skip — mint essential oils irritate cats.
Why
Mint plants (except catnip, a mint relative that is safe) contain oils that can cause stomach upset in cats; concentrated mint oils are toxic.
What to do instead
Skip garden mint; catnip is the safe cousin.
Symptoms to watch for
Vomiting, diarrhoea.
If your cat has eaten mint, don't wait for symptoms.
Call your vet, or in the US the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (888-426-4435) or Pet Poison Helpline (855-764-7661), 24 hours a day. Have the amount, the time and any packaging ready.
