Can cats eat apples?
A small piece is fine, but most cats won't care.
Why
Cats are obligate carnivores and have little sweet taste; apple flesh is harmless in a fingertip-sized piece, but it adds sugar they don't need and the seeds and core are the same hazard as for dogs.
How to serve it
One thin, peeled, seedless sliver now and then. Skip it entirely for diabetic cats.
If they eat too much
Vomiting or diarrhoea if a cat eats more than a bite or two; distress if a piece of core is swallowed.
How much apples for my cat?
A daily maximum for a healthy adult cat, kept inside the 10% treat rule. Enter body weight.
Up to 2 g a day — a pea-sized piece · peeled, seedless, tiny piece.
Treats of all kinds should stay under about 10% of daily calories. Puppies, kittens, seniors and pets with a medical condition: ask your vet first.
