Can cats eat dog food (for cats)?
A cat cannot live on dog food.

Why
Dog food lacks the taurine, arachidonic acid, vitamin A and protein levels cats require. A stolen bite is harmless; a diet of it causes heart disease and blindness.
What to do instead
Keep cats on complete cat food.
Symptoms to watch for
Weight loss, dull coat, heart disease, vision loss over time.
If your cat has eaten dog food (for cats), don't wait for symptoms.
Call your vet, or in the US the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (888-426-4435) or Pet Poison Helpline (855-764-7661), 24 hours a day. Have the amount, the time and any packaging ready.
And for dogs?
Safe. Dogs can obviously eat dog food — but not cat food long-term. Can dogs eat dog food (for cats)? →
